Sonia Tita Puopolo received her Bachelors of Science in Communication Studies and Masters in Political Communications from Emerson College in Boston, and her second Masters in Government from Harvard University where she wrote her thesis entitled, The Internet and U.S. Senatorial Campaigns 2000: An Analysis of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s Website. Tita has been a spokesperson and leader in promoting global understanding, tolerance, and peace through communication throughout her college life. Since 9/11, when she lost her mother Sonia Mercedes Morales Puopolo on American Airlines Flight 11, Tita has worked with various organizations in attempting to stress understanding through communication. She has delivered speeches at forums throughout North America, Europe, and in the Middle East at the Jeddah Economic Forum and at Aramco.
Moreover, Tita has been a major voice of the first grass roots public diplomacy effort since 9/11 – the Global Exchange (GE), initiated by her professor, Dr. Gregory Payne of Emerson College and his former student and friend of Tita, Prince Faisal Al Saud of KSA amongst other initiatives. With her help and participation, the Clinton Global Initiative has praised the GE, the first grass-roots public diplomacy effort after 9/11. Tita has published on the role of the internet in politics in the American Behavioral Scientist and has presented refereed papers at the National Communications Association and International Association of Business Disciplines. In addition, Tita’s Harvard thesis is noted in the book entitled,Governance.com: democracy in the information age, edited by Elaine Ciulla Kamarck and Joseph S. Nye, Visions of Governance in the 21st Century (Program) on page 103, Catching Voters in the Web by David C. King. As Tita continues her mother’s legacy, through Sonia’s Ring she is an advocate of love, faith, hope, and perseverance.
